CYO Help

Are you an employee of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District? If so CYO is very much in need or your assistance and time.

SRVUSD has significantly increased the cost of using their gyms for Sunday games this year.  The increase is such that we are forced to look at alternative ways for gym usage on Sunday game days so that we do not have to increase are fees to levels that will effect children playing in our program.  As an example, to use Stone Valley gym for Sunday games the costs is in excess of $100/hr.  We might have to look at other gyms to reduce the cost.  This could mean moving games out of our area to Pleasanton or Dublin, this could mean having to increase registration fees significantly, this could mean looking at other gyms that are less desirable.  We do not want to do any of those things but may be forced to.

SRVUSD requires that a District employee be on site when the gym is being used.  Historically they have assigned maintenance personnel to do this.  It does not have to be maintenance personnel, just an employee of the District.  If you can volunteer your time on Sunday's as games are being played we do not have to incur maintenance personnel fees ($42/hr.).  We would rather have District employees donated their time or even pay them a small amount to watch over the gyms.  We can even put you to work working the scoreboard or keeping score at the games which is also a paying position (not much but it is something).

I would like to find some District employees and rotate them during the season to take on this responsibility.  It is a good way to give back to the program, help the children and even earn a little spending money.

Please contact Mike Fake at athleticdirector@stisidorecyo.org or call 925-362-1927 if you are interested.  Please consider this as it will be very helpful to our program.  Thank you very much.

   Volunteers Needed

The Whistle Stop - Referees

WE HAVE AN IMPORTANT NEED THAT WILL BENEFIT OUR PROGRAM!

Catholic Youth Organization basketball is a success due to the hard work of many individuals.

Training, organizing and helping referees for our league is a very important and time consuming responsibility.  This responsibility has always been taken  by one individual.  This year we want to spread this responsibility and are looking for one or two additional volunteers to help.  Two or three individuals working together with the referees will tremendously benefit our program.  Please contact the Athletic Director at athleticdirector@stisidorecyo.org if you have interest or need more information.

Also, in order to continue the success of the basketball program, we are inviting you to consider participating in a unique way – that of a C.Y.O. basketball official. In the past we have relied upon the development of high school aged students to officiate in our program which has been very rewarding. Many adults have asked about the possibility of adult officials for our games. In fact, one of our program goals is to combine adult and high school aged students to officiate games. This will benefit the adults, students and most importantly our youth. This year we had a few adults participate for the first time and would like to expand on adult participation.

Please consider offering your time, it will be rewarding. We offer training, supervision and the opportunity to work with our youth.

If you are interested or would like to recommend any responsible adult, please call Rick Medeiros, Supervisor of Officials, at 838-8768 or leave a message at the CYO phone hotline 925-362-1927 for him. Thank you for your consideration
